Who Can Apply for the Senior or Specialist Worker Visa?
To qualify for the Senior or Specialist Worker visa, you must meet key criteria. First, you need a valid Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) from a UK-licensed employer, detailing your role, salary, and employment duration. Your application must be submitted within three months of receiving the CoS.
If your salary is below £73,900 per year, you must have worked for your overseas employer for at least 12 months before applying. However, this requirement is waived if your salary meets or exceeds £73,900. Your job must also be on the UK Home Office’s eligible occupation list, with your four-digit occupation code confirming its eligibility.
Salary requirements include a minimum of £52,500 per year (or the going rate for your role, whichever is higher). Your employer must confirm this in the CoS. If you’ve previously held an Intra-company Transfer visa, different salary rules may apply.
Financially, you must have at least £1,270 in savings for 28 consecutive days before applying, unless your employer certifies financial support for your first month in the UK.
What is the Senior or Specialist Worker Visa Application Process?
Applying for the Senior or Specialist Worker visa involves several steps. First, confirm your eligibility by ensuring you have a Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS), your job is on the eligible occupations list, and your salary meets the required threshold. Your employer must issue your CoS before you apply, and if they’re not yet licensed, they must obtain a sponsor licence first.
Once you have your CoS, complete the online application up to three months before your job starts. You’ll need to provide personal details, employment information, and supporting documents like your passport, CoS, and proof of financial maintenance if required. Next, submit biometric data (photograph and fingerprints) at a visa application centre if applying from outside the UK. However, this is not applicable to EU nationals who can apply using the IDV App. You must also provide financial proof, such as bank statements or confirmation from your sponsor covering your maintenance.
Processing typically takes up to eight weeks. Once approved, you’ll receive your visa, allowing you to travel to the UK and start work as outlined in your CoS.
